Update
Wow! I’m so happy to share that we’ve raised enough money to adopt the bench in Louisa Boren Park. Plus, people have donated an extra $3,467 and we have $1,632 coming in matching gifts. That’s a total of $5,009 that can be put toward refurbishing a second bench or possibly purchasing a new one.
Thank you to everyone that’s donated and spread the word. It is incredibly wonderful to see this overwhelming support for Krishna and his family more than six months later.
Last updated May 13.
Krishna loved exploring Seattle, especially the parks, and then taking his friends and family to his favorite spots. As a way to honor his memory and love for the outdoors, we contacted the Seattle Parks Foundation to adopt a bench.
With guidance from the foundation, my sister, Emily, trekked through many parks to identify potential benches we could sponsor. After much coordination, we identified one at Louisa Boren Park that could use our love. The park has beautiful views of Lake Washington and the Cascades. It’s also located in Capitol Hill, the neighborhood in which Krishna lived.
Here’s the view from the soon-to-be Krishna bench:
There will be a plaque next to the bench indicating its adoption after it’s refurbished.
We’re working with the foundation and the parks department to have the project completed by July 26, Krishna’s birthday. In order to meet that timeline, we need to donate $1,800 by May 4.
If you want to donate, here’s how:
- Go to https://
seattleparksfoundation.org/ 2014-pages/step-up/bench - Under Donate to this project, choose “Other” and put in however much you want to donate.
- Important: Enter “Krishna Venkatesh” in the Comments section.
- Enter the rest of the information needed for your donation to be processed.
- Email the amount you donated to lindsey@lindseyperkins.com, so we can keep a running tally of our progress (and keep track for thank you note purposes).
All donations are tax-deductible. If we raise extra money, we will try to adopt another bench (or two).
Please don’t feel obligated to donate. We just wanted you to know about the bench. If you feel compelled to donate, all the better.
If you have any questions, email me.
Again, the donation deadline is Monday, May 4.
